There are two main seasonal rainfall forecasts in a year for most of Kenya. However, the western parts of the country experiences another rainy season in June to August (JJA). The March-April-May (MAM) season is characterized by widespread rains over most parts of Kenya and they usually take long and hence the term 'Long Rainy Season' is used to describe the MAM. The October-November-December (OND) season is characterized by shorter period of rain and hence the term 'Short Rainy Season'. Kenya Meteorological Department issues forecast listed below.
