The Oceanography and Marine Meteorology
Services (OMMS) was established in 2003 as a section in the department
and became a full division in 2006. Its mandate is to establish and
provide oceanography and marine meteorological services to meet the
requirements of the marine community in the country.

The main objective of the division is to
operationalize oceanography and marine meteorology in line with the
Department's mandate of providing meteorological information and
services for the protection of life and property and conservation of
natural environment. To achieve this the division has come up with five
programme modules which form the core functions of the
division.
