Real Time Data Processing Software

This software automates the entire Real Time Data processing from the reception point upto the plotting of the meteorological chart. It requires to under the operating systems that allow multitasking such as Ms Windows. It comprises three major components namely:

Receiver
This component deals with receiving coded data from the communication lines, removes the control characters then stores the data into text computer files.

Decoder
This is a routine that activates automatically after some intervals of time and  decodes the stored data seperating it into surface and upper air data files. 

Plotting
This routine converts the decoded  into graphics that describes the observed weather parametersin pictorial form. This graphics are plotted on charts using wide format printers. The plotted charts are analysed and used for the weather forecasting production

About the software Development at Computer Services Division

The software used for the major data processing are designed in-house by the personnel from this section. There are dicated programmers in this section who can design softeware to operate under any required platform.

The section is proud to have developed two software to perform the processing of Real Time data  and Climatological data. Several countries have shown some interest in acquiring these software from the Kenya Meteorological Department
 

Climatological Data processing Software

This software handles all the parameters of meteorological data. It can runs under Dos and MS Windows operating systems. It is can run under both network and stand alone hardware systems.
There Three major feature in This software namely:

Data Entry
This component allows many users to enter data from different terminals while using the same file server. As many terminal as the hardware envirnment can support can be used without degrading the performace.

Data Verification
The software verifies the accuracy of the entered data by ensuring that it fall within the statistical limits. It allows the re-run of data entry procedure in oder to eliminate the typegraphical error from the individual data entry operators.

Data Archival and Retrieval
This eperations are done with ease to allow the online and offline storage of the data. The required data is usually extracted in any required form
