Based at the port of Mombasa, the unit aims at giving service that helps customers save money and operate more efficiently. For the offshore industry, highly accurate and specialized forecasts are be given on a frequent basis with access provided to forecasters on a 24-hour basis. In this way offshore installations are able to avoid costly damage due to bad weather by being prepared well in advance. Additionally, delicate, weather-sensitive operations can be carried out when the conditions are most suitable.

Other services to the marine industry include specialized forecasts for fishing fleets, ferry services and ports and inland Lakes. Many design and planning problems in the marine industries can be addressed by suitable analysis of past weather data. The Marine Consultancy Service have access to global databases and analysis software to provide these services to the Offshore, Sea Transport and Coastal Construction sectors. Also, incidents at sea involving damage to (or loss of) a vessel or its cargo normally require some study of the weather conditions at the time. Our marine meteorologists are able to provide expert and authoritative evidence to meet the needs of marine lawyers, consultants and insurance assessors.
Plans are underway to introduce ship routing services to sea vessels in the near future.
