National Communication Network

There are four National Data Collecting Centres:

  • Garissa for the North Eastern Zone
  • Mombasa for the Coastal Zone
  • JKI Airport, Nairobi for the Central Zone
  • Kisumu for the Western Zone.

  •

These centres receive observational data from their zone using single side band ( SSB ) transceivers and public telephone networks. All of these centres are linked with Nairobi Regional Telecommunication Hub (RTH) via leased circuits. In addition to the leased circuits, JKI Airport is also linked to the Nairobi RTH via our own private microwave link.

Nairobi RTH has an Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN)circuit linking to the International CivilAviation Organisation (ICAO) Network.
